A Force In Our Community Even A Hurricane Can't Compete With |
Once upon a time in Cape Coral, Florida, there lived a Disabled Leader named Matt Ficarra. Matt had a unique vision and a heart full of compassion for wheelchair bound individuals seeking a memorable vacation experience.
Matt is from Syracuse, New York and this chapter of his journey began after he experienced a life-altering diving accident almost 13 years ago. Matt was not a fan of the cold weather, especially since his spinal cord injury altered his body’s temperature regulation capabilities, so when Covid hit and he was no longer required to be in the office everyday, he embarked on a new adventure that would not only change his life but also touch the lives of countless others.
He envisioned a place where he could enjoy his love of boating and where people with disabilities could enjoy a worry-free vacation. He began to comb Zillow and after video walkthrough after video walkthrough he found it. THE ONE.. He made his real estate agent earn his money by doing extensive measurements and then even hired a contractor from afar. When his build was complete, Matt made his way to Cape Coral, Florida, a picturesque coastal town brimming with natural beauty.
After the lease of the renter he inherited with the purchase ended, he dug into the other side of the duplex, ensuring that every aspect of the property was wheelchair-friendly and equipped with state-of-the-art accessibility features. He even bought a boat and made that accessible! His attention to detail was meticulous, aiming to create an environment that would empower his guests and provide them with the freedom to enjoy their stay to the fullest.
One fateful day, a powerful hurricane swept through Cape Coral, unleashing its wrath upon Matt's beloved property. The winds howled, the rain poured. Poured right into his once-impeccable duplex. It even carried that boat away. As the storm subsided, Matt surveyed the wreckage with a heavy heart, knowing that all he had built had been devastated. But amidst the despair, a resilient spirit burned within him. He made a vow to rebuild and make it even more accessible than before. The hurricane may have left its mark, but it did not take Matt's unwavering commitment to his mission.
He was even able to replace his boat, which he uses to take his guests on dolphin cruises and fishing trips. Many disabled individuals had never experienced the joy of being out on the water, and Matt's boat rides provided them with a sense of freedom and exhilaration they had never thought possible. He has even fulfilled the dying wishes of some of his guests. These heartfelt experiences left an indelible mark on everyone involved and served as a testament to Matt's dedication to making a difference.
In addition to the boat rides, Matt's property boasts a large hot tub equipped with a chair lift, offering a spa-like experience to his guests. From breathtaking sunsets over the canal to laughter shared during boat rides, to making lifelong connections with his guests, he has created a tapestry of experiences that are be cherished forever.
Through his extraordinary efforts, Matt proved that disability does not define a person's potential. He transformed a simple duplex into a sanctuary of joy, love, and unforgettable experiences, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to touch lives for generations to come. Matt is currently in the process of expanding and we can't wait to see the paradise he creates next!
